When making his most recent album Objects in the Mirror, produced by singer-songwriter Will Hoge, Stephen Kellogg set out to make a record that sounded like the music he grew up loving.
"High Highs, Low Lows" is a reflective tune about life's peaks and valleys that would sound at home alongside the FM hits of Bob Seger and Tom Petty.
Kellogg says the video, which Wide Open Country is premiering today, is a mix of candid moments from the road and scripted clips.
"We shot this video on tour in the three days after Christmas. It was rainy and freezing cold for most of it, but I just kept reminding myself how incredibly fortunate I was to have an opportunity to add a visual layer of meaning to the song," Kellogg tells Wide Open Country. "The highs of getting to make a music video for a tune that means a lot to you, and the lows of doing it on no sleep in wintry temperatures. Peter Harding (the director) and I would get up, talk about what the song meant, and try different things. Sometimes he would just film. The video itself is a blend of both candid and a few staged moments as well, my favorite of which is me running down a street in my hometown. I was laughing so hard considering what my neighbors would think if they saw me with my guitar, running in the rain, being chased by my own van as I turned around to flip the driver off..."
