There's a new kind of burger to add to the cook-out. According to Food Beast, breaded SPAM patties have been spotted in Costco alongside the frozen burgers for the price of $9.59. The breaded pork patties were located at a Costco in Fountain Valley, California. The boxes contain 9 servings, with each serving being two patties. On the back, the company showcases recipes you can make including SPAM musubi, Spam sliders, SPAM served breakfast style, and SPAM katsudon rice bowls. What is SPAM?
Created by Hormel Foods, SPAM has been around since 1937 and gained popularity during World War II when it was included in solider's food rations. By the end of the war, over 150 million pounds of the canned meat had been purchased by the military.
Today Hawaii is the highest per capita consumer in the United States, where SPAM musubi (cooked SPAM is placed on cooked rice and wrapped in nori) is popular. Even the Hawaiian McDonald's serves the meat product in a breakfast platter with scrambled eggs and white rice.
Whether you add it to your casseroles or add SPAM slices to your sushi, the options are endless when it comes to this luncheon meat. Using the new SPAM patties from Costco would make great hamburgers!

You can even make burgers out of the original SPAM. Prepare your grill or broiler and cut the Spam into four slices. Grill or broil the SPAM until golden brown, about 5-7 minutes. Place a slice of American cheese or cheddar on the slices and heat until melted. Place the SPAM patty on a hamburger bun loaded with mayonnaise, lettuce leaves, and ketchup. Serve with fresh pineapple slices on the side and french fries.
