Southwest Airlines' new Enter Airplane Mode campaign offers eligible Rapid Rewards members up to 10,000 points for simply sharing how many phone notifications they have after their flight.

Eligible passengers who submit a screenshot of their phone notifications to Southwest's Notification Vacation promotion will receive between 1,000 and 10,000 Rapid Rewards points.

"As the airline that democratized the skies, Southwest Airlines has always helped make the dream trip a reality. Our new campaign, 'Enter Airplane Mode,' encourages Customers to recognize when they're approaching a breaking point and to turn that moment into their booking point," said Sabrina Callahan, Senior Vice President and Chief Digital & Marketing Officer. "With a Customer extension called 'Notification Vacation,' we are taking it one step further from simply encouraging you to take the trip to helping you bring it to fruition."

Southwest Offering Points For Phone Notifications

Customers can now upload a screenshot of their homepage notifications and receive Rapid Rewards points. Southwest passengers can also complete a Burnout Quiz after the flight to receive Rapid Rewards points.

Business professionals likely have a leg up on the competition, as their phones are constantly buzzing with Slack and Teams notifications.

Duolingo fans can also score big by converting their streak reminders into points towards their next trip.

The 'Enter Airplane Mode' campaign launched Monday, Oct. 5.

A 2024 musicMagpie study revealed that the average person receives 146 notifications daily, roughly one notification every ten minutes.

Based on iPhone data, Gen Z phone users received the most notifications, averaging 181 daily alerts, or one every 8 minutes.

The study also identifies the apps most responsible for notification output. WhatsApp emerged as the top offender, with over half of the participants receiving notifications from the communications app. Instagram, iMessage, Messenger, and Gmail rounded out the list of the highest notification contributors.

'Enter Airplane Mode' is the latest update implemented by Southwest.

In January, switched to an assigned-seating booking format for the first time in its 53-year history.

Southwest also began offering Starlink Wi-Fi connectivity on all flights this year.
