Son of Super Bowl-Winning NFL Coach Breaks the Powerlifting Bench Press Record

Jon Gruden's son, Deuce, recently broke the powerlifting record for his weight class, with a monster 483-pound lift.

Success runs in the Gruden family. On Saturday, January 10, Deuve Gruden, son of former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden, wrote his name into the history books.

Deuce broke the record for powerlifting in his weight class. He was competing in the 83.5KG "Open Raw" division. Deuce's lift registered in at 483.9lbs (that's 291.5 kilograms for our non-American readers). By successfully completing the monster lift, which was done via bench press, Deuce's name has been etched into the Powerlifting America National record books.

After the record-setting was complete, Jon Gruden celebrated his son's achievement with a post on X, formerly Twitter.

"My son Deuce broke the powerlifting record last night for his weight class in Las Vegas! 483-pound bench press!" Jon wrote.

Impressively, that single lift wasn't the only success Deuce had at the event. He ended the bench-press portion with lifts of 200 kg and 212.5 kg and, of course, his record-setting attempt.

Deuce is no stranger to the gym. He previously worked as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for Washington, spending two years with the team in 2016 and 2017. Deuce then left to team up with his pops at the Oakland Raiders.

With strength like that, Deuce should be on the field, not holding a coaching clipboard.

Jon Gruden Would Love To Coach in the SEC

In August 2024, Jon Gruden was filmed speaking with the Georgia Bulldogs during their fall camp. During the discussion, he admitted that he would like to return to coaching.

"The only reason I really came here is I want to coach again," Gruden said. "I'm being honest with you... I want to coach again. I'd die to coach in the SEC. I would love it. I would f-----g love it."

Unfortunately, for Gruden, no team has come knocking on his door, although there was a brief rumor linking him with the Arkansas Razorbacks recently. Instead, he's continued with his role as a media personality on Barstool Sports.

Nevertheless, if a coaching opportunity does arise, it's safe to say that Gruden would jump at the chance. And maybe then, his son Deuce will be back in the gym, helping athletes learn how he's breaking records.
