Michael Reagan, the son of former President Ronald Reagan, has died at age 80.

"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Edward Reagan," Michael's wife, Colleen, wrote in a statement. "Michael was and will always remain a beloved husband, father, and grandpa. Michael was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 4th, surrounded by his entire family in Los Angeles, California. Our hearts are deeply broken as we grieve the loss of a man who meant so much to all who knew and loved him. We appreciate your prayers and ask that you would respect our family's privacy during this difficult time."
Michael was Ronald's oldest son, although he was adopted. His mother, Jane Wyman, was an actress throughout the mid-to-late 90s. She was best known for her role as Eve Gil on the 1950s movie Stage Fright. Her last role came in 1993, when she made a cameo appearance on Doctor Quinn, Medicine Woman.
Throughout his life, Michael became a respected author. He released books such as "Lessons My Father Taught Me" and "Twice Adopted" both being well-received by the general public.
Michael Reagan Reportedly Died After a Battle With Cancer
While the family has not provided a cause of death, Andrew Coffin, the Vice President and Director of the Reagan Ranch, noted that Michael had been battling cancer in a statement of his own.
"We lost an American hero, a faithful son, and a devoted father and grandfather this week. Ronald Reagan's oldest son, Michael Edward Reagan, died following a battle with cancer on Sunday, January 4, 2026," Andrew wrote. "...To paraphrase his father's closing words from the Oval Office: Michael, you haven't just been marking time. You've made a difference. Your voice has made this country stronger and freer, and, thanks to your commitment to sharing the lessons of your father with young Americans, you are making sure that we leave her in good hands."
Michael was also a lecturer and radio host. His voice and words touched thousands, if not millions of lives. He leaves behind his wife, Colleen, his two daughters and two half-siblings from Ronald's second marriage to Nancy Reagan.
