Son Confirms Death of ‘Sanford and Son’ Star: “I Loved Him. He Was a Great Man”

Demond Wilson of 'Sandford and Son,' has sadly passed away at the age of 79, following a battle with cancer.

Demond Wilson has died, aged 79, following a battle with cancer. Wilson was best known for his work on the hit series Sanford and Son. His publicist provided a statement to ABC News regarding his passing.

"The family of Demond Wilson is deeply saddened by his passing," the statement read. "At this time, they ask for privacy as they grieve. No further details are available, and the family has no additional information to share."

The publicist then went on to detail his experience of working with Wilson and the impact his loss will have on those who knew him.

"Personally, I had the privilege of working with Demond for 15 years, and his loss is profoundly felt. He was an unbelievable man, and his impact will never be forgotten. The family appreciates the support and understanding of the community during this difficult time."

Wilson was at the height of his career during the 70s. However, he remained semi-active in recent years, with his last role, a cameo on Elanor's Bench occuring in 2023. In total, Wilson had 17 credits to his name in a career spanning more than 50 years.

Demond Wilson's Son Confirmed His Passing to TMZ

Demon Wilson's son, Demond Wilson Jr. also confirmed the loss of his father when speaking with TMZ.

"He was pronounced dead Friday morning at his home in Palm Springs, California. He passed away from complications related to cancer," Wilson Jr. told the outlet. "I loved him. He was a great man."

Outside of Sanford and Son, Wilson also held a role on The New Odd Couple, appearing in 18 episodes. He may also be remembered for his time on Baby...I'm Back! along with his two-episode cameo on hit TV series The Love Boat.

Wilson was born in Valdosta, Georgia, in 1946. His career made him one of the most recognizable actors of his generation. Even now, Sanford and Son is often found playing on television, such was its impact throughout the years.

Outside of the two statements, no further information has been provided regarding Wilson's passing, nor his impending funeral. That information will undoubtedly be kept within the confines of close family and friends.
