Police received a call from the man who was frantically searching for his truck and baby. He was driving around the Rio Rancho area in another vehicle. The police quickly responded and put out a search for the missing truck.
The response was fast, and a two-mile radius was set up. Air support was called in, and a helicopter joined the search. In a panic, police and the owner of the truck searched for the missing baby.
Within half an hour, the truck had been located. The prospect of inadvertently kidnapping was clearly too much for the car thief. Stealing a truck is one thing, but stealing a baby is a whole new kettle of fish.
The child was recovered from the truck which was located abandoned in the parking lot of a restaurant nearby. The baby was taken from the truck, inspected, and found to be completely unharmed. The truck thief had made the wise decision to not keep the baby or even abandon it somewhere else.
The Baby In The Stolen Truck Is Hardly A One Off
According to the research done by Kids And Car Safety, there are hundreds of cases where babies and kids are taken during car and truck theft. The parents have usually popped away for just a minute when an opportunist steals the vehicle.
They advise never leaving a child alone in a car, even for a minute. People will usually leave a window cracked, or even the car running, while a child is inside. This is irresistible for a thief. Thankfully, in almost all cases, once the thief realizes, they will abandon the car, and the child is recovered.
Like this case with the baby in the truck, car theft is one thing, kidnapping another. Most people are just trying to make a quick buck rather than steal a child. However, let it be a word of warning. Leaving your child in a car for even a minute can open them up to the chance of kidnapping.
Just take them into the bar with you. If you're thirsty, they're thirsty.
