In a statement, Livingstone College addressed reports circulating online that claimed Muñoz had died on campus.

The school confirmed she passed away off campus and urged people to stop spreading inaccurate information.

"It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that Livingstone College shares the passing of our beloved student-athlete, Gabriella Muñoz, a rising junior from Katy, Texas, and a cherished member of the Blue Bear softball family," the statement read.

"Gabriella represented the very best of Livingstone College."

The 19-year-old played as a utility player and pitcher for the Division II program.

Last season, she appeared in 27 games and made one start.

Muñoz finished the year with a .333 batting average, two runs scored, and two RBIs.

She posted a 5.33 ERA with nine strikeouts across 27 innings and compiled a 1-2 record.

Coach Pays Tribute to Student-Athlete

Head coach Steve Wallace shared an emotional tribute following the news of Muñoz's passing.

"I am completely heartbroken by the passing of Gabriella," he wrote. "She was a complete joy to have as a part of the program. A great athlete and an even better student."

"The program will miss her immensely and her absence will be felt."

Away from the field, Muñoz excelled in the classroom. She earned a place on the dean's list in both semesters and maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA during the past academic year.

She is survived by her parents and two siblings.

"Although Gabriella's time with us was far too short, her impact will endure. She leaves behind a legacy of academic excellence, athletic determination, unwavering kindness, and Blue Bear pride that will continue to inspire our community for years to come," the school's statement continued.

Livingstone College has also made counseling and support services available for students, faculty, and staff affected by her death.

"Forever a Blue Bear. Forever in our hearts," the statement concluded.

Instead of flowers, Muñoz's family has asked for donations to be made in her memory to the Epilepsy Foundation of Texas.
