'SNL' Alum Unloads on Airline For Bumping Him From First Class

On his way home from Hawaii, the comedian says that the airline "stole" his first-class seats and put him in economy.

As a stand-up comedian, you'd think that Jim Breuer would be used to getting bumped.

The Saturday Night Live alum took to YouTube to take American Airlines to task for moving him from first class to economy moments before boarding his plane.

Jim Breuer Was Coming Home From Hawaii

The 58-year-old star of Half Baked and his wife were flying home on American Airlines from Hawaii after visiting their daughter in Honolulu. They decided to splurge and ride home to Florida in first class. The couple even pre-ordered their meal.

But then Breuer spotted some airline pilots arriving at their gate before boarding. Moments later, the comedian and his wife were downgraded to economy.

The airline was going to reimburse them. It offered them a $500 voucher and a $400 refund. Breuer believed he was being robbed, comparing the pilots taking his and his wife's seats to having his wallet stolen.

"This is foul because the way I see it, you stole from me. You stole my ticket, you stole my money," he said. "An American Airlines employee stole from me."

He added, "So, this shows me you can book any ticket on American Airlines, and they have no problem putting one of their employees in your seat and then lie to your face and say it was overbooked and offer absolutely nothing."

Breuer Wants American Airlines To Call Him Back

Under the 2023 Allied Pilots Association contract, American Airlines has to give deadheading pilots, those who are traveling to or from assignments as passengers, priority for first-class upgrades. They even take priority over top loyalty members. This is to ensure that they are rested for later flights.

It's doubtful if Breuer is aware of this, considering his reaction to what happened.

As he continued his rant, he said he was upset that American Airlines never called him back after multiple phone calls.

"I need a human being to call me and go, 'Hey man, how can we make this up to you?'" he said.

He then joked that it would take two one-way first-class tickets to anywhere in the country to make things right. We certainly wish him luck with that.
