Terrified Homeowner Realizes that Her Home is a Snake Den

A Montana woman says she sees up to eight snakes a day inside her farmhouse after discovering the property may sit on a snake den.

Living in a rural property comes with its fair share of challenges.

However, discovering that your home may actually be a snake den is not something most homeowners expect to deal with.

Callie, who is also known online as callieoverseas, says she can see up to eight snakes a day during the spring at her Montana farmhouse.

Woman Reveals Life Inside Snake Den Home

Living in a remote area, Callie said she always expected the occasional snake sighting.

The 27-year-old explained that her mother-in-law first spotted one of the reptiles inside the home in 2020 while staying with the family.

"She came across it," Callie told PEOPLE. "It came from the entryway in our house. We had that one in 2020, and then in the fall of 2020, we had another one, and it was my mom who found it."

Later that year, Callie encountered one of the snakes herself for the first time.

"I was going to go get my daughter out of her pack and play. She was about 6 months old at the time, and I turned around, and it was really small, but it was right on the floor in the living room, which totally caught me off guard with it being December."

Callie explained that she expected snakes to live nearby because of a water source located roughly three miles from the property.

Still, the sheer number of sightings eventually made her realize the issue was far more serious than she had initially thought.

Family Discovers Farmhouse May Be Built on Snake Den

Callie recalled that the situation became "really bad" last summer, when the frequency of sightings dramatically increased.

That was when she realized the problem was no longer simply about finding the occasional snake inside an old farmhouse.

After spotting around four snakes inside the living area of the home at the same time, she came to the conclusion that "the house is a den."

"The foundation for the house is cinder block, so we have an entryway that goes down into our basement and everything, and that's lined with the cinder blocks of the foundation," she added. "Right now, we have our front door sealed and completely shut."

She explained that the snakes regularly emerge through the foundation of the property.

"They're just garter snakes, and they eat lots of bugs. People tell me all the time, 'Don't worry about them, they're harmless,' but there's still my irrational fear," she said. "I would never touch them. I don't want them in my house."

Callie has since documented her experience online while attempting to raise $75,000 to move into a new home.

Her husband works as a ranch hand, with the farmhouse currently included as part of his employment package. The couple now hopes to eventually purchase a home of their own.

Since sharing her story online, Callie has built a sizable following documenting her "snake journey". She has roughly 65,000 followers on Instagram and more than 120,000 on TikTok.
