It's understandable to be a bit jumpy following something devastating like the Bourbon Street attack. When smoke surfaced over The French Quarter in New Orleans, people's minds instantly feared the worst.
Had there been another devastating attack against the city? Well, fortunately, the cause of the smoke appears to be something more garden variety if still terrible. Intel Point Alert says that the source of the smoke appears to be a residential fire.
The fire appeared on Chartres Street in the French Quarter. Fire crews have responded to the fire to put out the blaze. It appears to have started in a two story home. At this time, that's all the information that we have. But I will update you when I learn more.
New Orleans In Recovery After Devastating Attack
New Orleans is still reeling from the devastating attack on Bourbon Street. Suspected driver Shamsud-Din Jabbar ran through the crowd on New Year's Day, killing 15 and injuring multiple others.
"It's devastating," resident Donyale Roberson said. "Because I don't want to see the city cast in this light. It deserves better than that. There is so much beauty here, and when that gets taken away and you're put in a different light ... it is maddening."
"Our mettle is constantly being tested," Roberson, 54, said. "But as a local, it's not going to change anything about how I live my life."
Meanwhile, another local, Harley Field, said that locals don't understand why their city was targeted.
"It hurts us even more because this guy isn't even from our city," Harley said. "He's from Texas. Why did he have to come here, to this community that is so closely stitched together, and do this to us?"
One New Orleans resident called the attack unavoidable.
"There's been a lot of talk saying, 'They could have done this, they could have done that,'" said Gil Rubman, another resident. "But the bottom line is there were 300 police in that area. And when something like this happens so spontaneously, there's nothing anybody can do to prevent it from happening."
