According to the Daily Mail, this outburst comes after several controversial ref calls that all favored the Kansas City Chiefs. The outlet also explains that the NFL had seen viewer numbers increase in the last 18 months when Taylor Swift started dating Chief's tight end, Travis Kelce. The spike in viewers isn't just a coincidence either, as Swift has been credited for attracting young women to watch the NFL.
Bayless Takes To YouTube To Vent Over The Chiefs Vs Texans Game
Bayless adds more context to his tweet in a short video posted on his YouTube channel. In a clip titled 'The refs got the memo,' Bayless explains the events that got him so riled up over an image on the screen that reads, "The NFL is now prisoner of the Swifties."
"I just finished watching Texans at Chiefs. It made me sick at my stomach. I won't be able to sleep tonight because I'll keep thinking about those two outrageous phantom penalties." Bayless said.
Bayless explains that he believes the NFL protected the Chief's quarterback Patrick Mahomes. "They made sure he's getting back to another home AFC Championship game, that will give him a great shot of getting to yet another Superbowl game." The sports analyst says the ratings will go through the roof because of the Swifties and reiterates that the NFL is now their prisoner.
"It's protecting Patrick Mahomes through the referees game after game after game to ensure the Swifties will come back and watch. Mahomes has turned into the biggest flop artist in the game." Bayless alleges. "The refs buy it because the refs got the memo," he added.
According to the Daily Mail, last year's Superbowl, which saw the Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers, averaged a whopping 123.4 million views.
