Witnesses told CNN affiliate WXIA that the man "fell and hit the car three times" before falling onto the roof of a haunted house attraction below.
Six Flags confirmed the unidentified victim's death in a statement.
"We are deeply saddened by the guest incident at our park today. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the guest's family, friends, and loved ones. We are also providing support to the guests and team members affected," the theme park wrote.
Six Flags has announced that it has shut down nine rides across the country following the tragic incident, in which several other people were also injured.
Police said the incident occurred shortly before 4 PM on Monday, and officers assigned to the park responded to the scene.
A couple who also rode the Goliath told WXIA that they saw the man strike the coaster three times.
"We were having a great time [then] to just screaming, 'Oh my God! What is happening?" the woman said. She noted that Six Flags staffers checked their safety harness before the ride.
Detectives from the Cobb County Police Department's Major Crimes Unit are investigating the incident.
"The park team and local authorities responded immediately. We are cooperating fully with local authorities as they complete their investigation. Out of respect for the family's privacy, we will not be sharing additional details at this time," Six Flags said in a statement.
Six Flags Shuts Down Nine Rides After Rider Dies in Georgia
Attractions at the parks that are similar to the coaster in Austell, Georgia, were closed "out of an abundance of caution," according to a Six Flags Entertainment Corporation spokesperson.
This is the second time in as many months that Six Flags has shut down an attraction following allegations involving a rider's death or serious injuries.
Last month, Six Flags permanently closed the X2 roller coaster, which has been linked in lawsuits and court records to two deaths and more than 100 allegations of brain injuries.
According to a CNN investigation, multiple riders underwent emergency brain surgery after riding X2.
In June 2022, 22-year-old Christopher Hawley collapsed and lost consciousness shortly after riding X2 with his brother and cousin.
He died from a traumatic brain injury the following day.
