Singer Shares That Her Cancer Is Now in Remission

The singer said she “couldn’t believe” the news as she had only been diagnosed with a form of leukemia a few months ago.

Nivea became emotional during her appearance on The Tamron Hall Show when she revealed that her cancer is now in remission.

Nivea Was Diagnosed Earlier This Year

The R&B singer, whose real name is Nivea B. Hamilton, shared the news during the Oct. 7 episode of the daytime talk show. The "Complicated" singer was diagnosed with leukemia earlier this year.

The 44-year-old began to cry when host Tamron Hall shared the news with the audience.

"I'm very grateful," Nivea added.

The singer said she "couldn't believe" the news as she had only been diagnosed a few months ago. She knew the success rate of the drug she was prescribed, but noted that "everybody's different" when it comes to the results.

"It's been an adjustment, like the symptoms," said Nivea. "I'm tired a lot. I have other issues. I'm bleeding. I have fibroids. It's a long little list, but I'm still on the better side than most. I'm not complaining...I'm not complaining at all."

The Singer Says Life Has "Changed" Since Her Diagnosis

The singer first revealed her diagnosis in July on the YouTube show Cadillac Chronicles. Several days later, her representative told PEOPLE that the cancer was Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML). According to the American Cancer Society, it is a type of cancer that starts in certain blood-forming cells of the bone marrow.

"I was diagnosed with CML in early 2026," said Nivea at the time. "As incredibly surprised as I was to have the diagnosis confirmed after [two] (because the [first] one wasn't successful) bone marrow biopsy procedures, I was profoundly thankful that it wasn't Blast [blastoma]. Which would have meant chemotherapy as part of the treatment."

She said she was relieved that CML wasn't hereditary. However, she found it "puzzling" that she didn't do anything to "cause" it.

"Life for me has changed in various ways, but treatment thus far is working," Nivea added. "Taking it day by day with a positive mindset [and] a heart full of gratitude! I'm blessed with the ability to still do what I love—music, continue to mother my children, and learn new skills that fuel me! I am and have been very blessed in this life and won't ever take it for granted."
