That's because, passengers at Orlando International Airport (MCO) were left stranded this weekend as all Silver Airways flights were suddenly canceled. The disruption comes after the airline filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in December 2024.
In a press release, Silver Airways announced the bankruptcy filing, explaining the decision would help secure additional capital and undergo a financial restructuring. The airline promised this move would ultimately strengthen its position and benefit customers.
Despite the bankruptcy, the airline assured passengers that all tickets remain valid. It also stated that flights could still be booked through its website or other channels. Customers of United and JetBlue, including those in loyalty programs, were told their bookings would not be affected.
However, the airline has yet to comment on the cancellations that grounded flights this weekend.
Silver Cancels All Flights
"MCO received notification yesterday afternoon that, effective immediately, all departing and arriving flights with Silver Airways are canceled," said Angela Starke, spokeswoman for the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, in an email.
Silver Airways operates routes from MCO to several destinations, including Pensacola, Key West, The Bahamas, and Fort Lauderdale. Before the cancellations, it ranked as MCO's 27th-largest airline by passenger count.
As FOX 35 relayed, the press release also stated that:
- All tickets remain valid, and we will continue operating as usual.
- You can book flights with Silver through our website or any other channel.
- United and JetBlue customers, including loyalty program members, will experience no disruptions to their bookings or services.
- Tickets purchased through any other airline or agency will be honored.
Passengers are now left scrambling for alternatives, with no immediate word on how the airline plans to address the disruption. Clearly, this news has impacted hundreds who are traveling for business or pleasure.
