Police officers have shot a man at Terminal 1 in Toronto Pearson International this morning. The massive emergency response is affecting operations at Canada's largest airport.

According to a post on X by Peel Regional Police, an officer was involved and shot an adult male. The officer is reportedly uninjured, and there's a large police presence at the airport. The post explains, 'This is an isolated incident, and there are no known threats to public safety.'
CBC News reports that neither Ontario's Special Investigations Unit nor the police have provided information on the injured man. However, multiple sources on X suggest that he is in a critical condition. Paramedics reportedly rushed to the scene at around 6:56 AM. The outlet revealed several images from the scene and counted at least a dozen law enforcement vehicles racing to Terminal 1. Passengers were reportedly running around police cruisers with their luggage.
Per CTV News, Chris Rhind, a witness at the airport, was checking his luggage when he heard "loud, popping noises." Those sounds reportedly startled a security guard. @TheTravelAssist on X reports that witnesses believe they heard 'several gunshots outside T1 by pillars 14 and 15.' They also confirm that the roadway leading to the departure drop-offs at Terminal 1 is blocked for now.
Airport Traffic And Passengers Are Being Rerouted
The Toronto Pearson account on X has posted a brief message explaining that traffic is being rerouted. "Due to a Peel Police investigation outside Terminal 1 departures. Passengers and vehicles are being rerouted to enter and exit through T1 arrivals. We will provide updates throughout the morning."
Airport officials have not said if any flights are affected, but Peel police have reportedly said to 'expect delays at the terminal.' Ontario police have also confirmed that 'Highway 409 to Terminal 1 departures is closed due to a police investigation.'
Per TTC Service alerts, the 900 Airport Express bus will take a detour via Terminal 3 due to the police presence. At the time of writing, Police or airport officials have not provided any details on what happened before the shooting or if the victim was armed.
