Until now, advanced singles from Shooter Jennings' forthcoming, Dave Cobb produced album Shooter celebrated the 1970s by emulating the music of his famous parents, Waylon Jennings and Jessi Colter, and all their rowdy friends. This can be heard on straight up country cuts "Fast Horses & Good Hideouts" and "Rhinestone Eyes." New song "Denim & Diamonds" stays in the same decade while introducing Shooter's rock influences in what can best be described as a Bad Company album cut—had their lead singer been Hank Williams Jr. instead of Paul Rodgers.
Like its country music predecessors, "Denim & Diamonds" is presented as part of the Hee Haw parody series Hey Shooter!—a vehicle for dad jokes and country puns that also helps expose Nashville stars, Hollywood high-rollers and honky tonk heroes to a wide television audience. In this context, it proves that nostalgia can be as silly as classic television and still inspire seriously good music.
There's also a fake "as seen on TV" LP commercial that reveals other song titles, including "D.R.U.N.K." and "Do You Love Texas?" Hopefully we hear those cuts and others soon via future Hey Shooter! webisodes.

The lyrics mix in references to the line dancing culture of the '80s and '90s, back when real people danced their cares away on Saturday nights at dive bars from Hollywood to Atlanta.
His new album arrives Aug. 10 via Elektra Records and Cobb's own Low Country Sound imprint. It's the latest project involving both Jennings and Cobb, the co-producers of Brandi Carlile's latest album By The Way, I Forgive You.
