Shia LaBeouf is being accused by his ex-girlfriend, FKA twigs, of silencing her by enforcing an "unlawful" nondisclosure agreement (NDA).

As reported by PEOPLE, the suit was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court yesterday, March 25. The filing alleges that specific provisions of the NDA violate California law.

"This is a case about justice and law, not money," wrote Mathew Rosengart, who is the attorney for the 38-year-old British singer-songwriter.

FKA twigs' Attorney Says the Lawsuit Is Trying "To Right a Wrong"

Rosengart added that FKA twigs, whose real name is Tahliah Barnett, filed the lawsuit "to right a wrong." He then added that she is acting on behalf of herself and other women "who do not have the resources to speak out and defend themselves from predators."

"In so doing, she seeks to ensure that survivors of sexual misconduct are not bullied or silenced like she was," he said.

This suit is related to one filed in 2020. That suit accused LaBeouf of sexual battery, assault, and infliction of emotional distress. It was settled last year.

According to the new complaint, LaBeouf claims that Barnett breached the agreement during a 2025 interview with The Hollywood Reporter. In that article, she explained she did not feel "safe" and discussed her efforts to support other survivors.

"LaBeouf's preposterous argument should offend every citizen of California," the complaint reads. It also calls his legal position "nonsensical," stating it defies both "common sense" and state law.

Per the suit, LaBeouf argues that the protections of California's Stand Together Against Non-Disclosure Act only apply to "sexual assault" claims, not "sexual battery." Barnett's attorneys say the STAND Act covers both.

The suit notes that LaBeouf agreed to drop the arbitration demand in February.

In February, LaBeouf got into a fight outside of a bar in the French Quarter in New Orleans during Mardi Gras. Court records show that LaBeouf was arrested and is facing two charges of simple battery. He was ordered to enroll in substance abuse treatment as part of the conditions of his release. He was also required to undergo drug testing and post a $100,000 bond.

Despite these legal troubles, after his arrest, he returned to the parade route. Pictures show LaBeouf taking photos with fans and drinking beer. The actor has stated in the past that, after years of allegations of erratic behavior and abuse, he has been sober.
