Osbourne Talked About Her Brief Stint With Queen
On the podcast The Osbournes, she discussed the remarkable gig. Her revelation was like a bombshell. Osbourne said she "was going out with a guy who used to buy his clothes at an antique market in Kensington, London, and Freddie [Mercury] worked at this place." She continued, "We managed them for one month." Jack Osbourne, flabbergasted, blurted out, "I had no idea."
Freddie Mercury Then Met John Reid
Osbourne's stint behind-the-scenes with Queen was short-lived. She explained why. "We had a party. We invited John Reid, who managed Elton John at the time. John was a friend of ours. He used to work at EMI, and he was a friend. And Freddie met John, John met Freddie. Love at first sight."
Per People, Reid managed the band for three years in the late 1970s. Osbourne realistically took the abrupt end of her role with Queen on the chin. She said, "What are you gonna do when both of your friends turn around to you and go, 'We love you, but we love each other more?' You go, 'Go, go. Have fun.' That was it."
She Pointedly Critiqued the Queen Biopic
Sharon Osbourne was less than enthused about the film. She noted frankly, "It was, 'Those songs will live forever,' and it turned a whole generation onto Queen's music that had never heard before. So with that, it was phenomenal. But I don't think it was a great movie. They changed the timing [of the story] and everything in it. That's why it was ... made 'nice' and that's what made it a Hallmark movie."
