Shania Twain Opens up About Hosting the ACM Awards

Shania Twain is truly and deservedly a legend in contemporary country music. She earned that status because of the mammoth success of her breakout 1997 album Come On Over. It featured runaway hit tracks like "Man! I Feel Like a Woman!," "You're Still the One," and "That Don't Impress Me Much." Many of the songs on that blockbuster LP are the anthems of an independent, empowered woman - and they sure did find a huge and appreciative audience that has supported her ever since.

Per The Boot, it was certified double diamond in the United States. Furthermore, Come On Over is "the best-selling country album of the 1990s, the best-selling country album of all time, the best-selling studio album by a female artist, of any genre, of all time...it stayed on the Billboard 200 Top 20 for 112 weeks and in that chart's Top 40 for 127 weeks." Whew! Given that kind of monster popularity, Shania Twain, 60, certainly has the necessary country cred to host the 61st Annual ACM Awards. She will do the emceeing honors on Sunday, May 17, in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Twain Said, "It Is a Chance [for Me] To Reconnect..."

This seems to be a burgeoning time for female country artists. With stars like Ella Langley, Lainey Wilson, and Megan Moroney on the rise, it's clearly their time to shine. Looks like Shania Twain wants to help celebrate that welcome trend. The gig, for her, is not just about having the spotlight herself; it's about generously sharing it with other worthy female artists. Twain's success helped to open the door for them.

Per Country Now, she shared, "This is fun to me. So hosting the ACMs is a chance to go celebrate all of the other artists, meet the new artists, the up and coming artists, celebrate a lot of the artists that have been rocking it the last several years that I have not been around much to say congratulations and way to go and all that kind of stuff," she recently explained. "So for me, it is a chance to reconnect with my favorite genre, which is my root music country and do my best job representing my genre."

Twain also astutely remarked, "I think that the women in country music have always been giving great music, great songs, great performances, but I think the awareness of them being underappreciated is what is happening right now."

She Loves That the Event Is in Las Vegas

Twain likes the fact that this year, the ACM Awards are in the glitz and glam capital of America, Las Vegas. It is also an entertainment capital that has provided an ideal stage for some of our greatest artists. The fan-favorite singer explained, "Las Vegas is probably the most international performance city in the world. So at the heart of entertainment globally is Las Vegas. So the presence of the ACMs in Vegas is essential."

Additionally, she mentioned, "So we have to keep honing that in because people come from all over the world to Vegas for various things. I mean, all kinds of things. Sports, for gambling, for fun, for partying, for work, for conferences and for music, music and entertainment is at the top of the list for everybody. So we have to make sure we're always in Las Vegas as country music."
