Shania Twain Is Getting a Movie About Her Life: What To Know

At the age of 60, Shania Twain has lived an amazing life. She endured a rough childhood, recorded an album, Come On Over, that made music history, and she is married to the ex-husband of her former best friend. (The ex-best friend was allegedly cheating with Twain's first husband, Robert "Mutt" Lange.) All that sounds like raw material for a really great movie. And now, Shania Twain is going to have a film made that is about her.

According to Deadline, Leah McLendrick will be directing the biopic for Sony Pictures. She authored the script, too. Shania Twain will co-produce the movie with Amie Karp. Those who know the details are reportedly keeping tight-lipped about the plot of Shania. Guess we will have to wait until it hits the big screen.

This is just the latest musically-themed biopic for the studio. Sony released Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody four years ago. The studio is also backing the long-awaited four-film project about the Beatles that is helmed by acclaimed director Sam Mendes.

This Is Just the Latest Splashy Achievement for Twain

The "Man! I Feel Like a Woman!" singer has a heap of professional milestones to her credit. The owner of five Grammys, Twain's "era-defining catalog" features such classics as "You're Still the One," and "Any Man of Mine." Then there is the sassy, empowering anthem, "That Don't Impress Me Much." Per Deadline, "With more than 100 million albums sold worldwide, Twain remains the top-selling female country-pop artist of all time."

Her next studio LP is titled Little Miss Twain. It is scheduled to drop on Friday, July 24. Twain posted on May on Instagram, "This album is a homage to my roots, my youth and my mother." She added a red heart emoji to the sentiment. Her fans are probably on the edge of their seats waiting for the album's release.

Director Leah McKendrick Is Also on the Career Upswing

Leah McKendrick is quite a powerhouse herself. She helmed and penned Voicemails for Isabelle for Netflix. She even has a role in the romantic comedy. It hits theaters on Friday, June 19.
