Kenny Chesney has been playing to massive crowds during his current Spread the Love tour with Miranda Lambert, Sam Hunt and Old Dominion. During his recent stop in Uncasville, Conn., the country star decided to take a moment to pay tribute to one of his personal musical heroes.
In between his lengthy set list of hits, he paused to put his own take on George Strait's famous track "Ocean Front Property." Musically, he kept his rendition very close to the original, returning to his early 1990s sound for the surprise cover. Take a look at his performance below.
While this is far from the first time that Chesney has surprised fans with a version of another chart-topper's song, the moment was a refreshing change of pace from his high-energy, non-stop set that features state of the art production video and lighting.
Chesney has been vocal about how artists like Strait were a big influence on his early years as an artist, as he struggled to find his own voice. It was only after years of imitating the greats that he learned going with his own style was the best way forward. Still, it's always nice to see him go back to the type of traditional country that helped him break into the scene so many years ago.
