Back in 2008, Joey Martin and Rory Feek were still struggling to make it big in the music industry. Even though they both had enjoyed great accomplishments as solo artists, they still dreamt of sharing their collective talents with the world. Everything changed for Joey + Rory after they submitted this audition video for the CMT singing competition, Can You Duet?
In the seven-minute long video, the couple introduce themselves, their lives and talents to the world. At the time, Joey was working hard to help run Marcy Jo's Mealhouse, a cozy restaurant that she opened with her sister-in-law in their hometown of Columbia, Tenn. Rory had earned success as a songwriter by penning hits for Blake Shelton and Clay Walker, but still dreamt of hitting it big as a solo artist alongside his wife.
Although they didn't know it at the time, the video would help the Feeks go on to become the third-place finalists on the first season of Can You Duet? Soon after, they signed a contract to Sugar Hill Records and released six studio albums over the next seven years.
Earlier this year, Joey Feek was diagnosed with terminal cervical cancer. Even during such a difficult time in their lives, the couple have shown the same hopeful spirit for the future that helped them first accomplish their dreams in 2008.
