In Dallas, Texas, Anthony Egenou, a father of three, confronted two shoplifters just after 11 pm, according to police per CBS News. The 39-year-old husband was transported to a hospital, but was later pronounced dead there.
According to The Dallas Morning News, police didn't reveal any information about the two suspects due to their age. The two juvenile suspects fled the scene, but are currently in custody. Information about their arrests and apprehension remain unrevealed.
The number of shots fired and the events that led to the escalation are also unclear.
A spokesperson for CVS told CBS News that the victim was employed by a third-party security company. He is not an employee of CVS but was stationed there by the unnamed security company. They shared that they are working with the police.
"We're cooperating with Dallas police as they investigate the incident that occurred at our Main Street store last night," they said.
The CVS itself continued operating the next day. However, they opened the store's doors some hours later than usual on Saturday. Instead of opening at 7 am as is usual, they opened their doors at 10 am.
Locals Scared To Shop At The CVS
Locals talking to the outlets have shared their fears over the sudden murder of Egenou.
One local told CBS News, "I will probably not go to the CVS alone. It's just not worth it. I don't want to be constantly worried that someone could come in and do that. It's kind of crazy to think that someone could just go in and shoot someone."
This murder seems to be the last straw for the local, as he said he'll be doing his shopping out of town from now on.
The incident is especially concerning considering how apparently young the offenders are. There will likely be no more shared developments of the case because of this.
I just hope the victim's family can somehow manage the overwhelming grief that's struck them so suddenly.
