Actor Paul Newman will always be a Hollywood legend. Between his on-screen charm and perfect blue eyes, he was the definition of a movie star. Known for hits like Cool Hand Luke, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and The Sting, he will undoubtedly be a household name for years to come. But outside of his acting career, he was so much more — a philanthropist, talented director, a race car driver, and most importantly, a father.
The actor had a total of six children throughout his life, three with his wife over 50 years, actress Joanne Woodward. Here's a closer look at the children of Paul Newman.

Alan Scott Newman
Scott and his younger sisters Susan and Stephanie came from Newman's marriage to first wife, Jackie Witte. Scott was the Academy Award winner's only son (and no, this is not the same Scott Newman as the member of the Minnesota Senate). He was an actor and stuntman, but sadly his filmography was brief as he passed away in 1978.
Scott made his credited debut as Young Fireman in the 1974 film The Towering Inferno, followed by roles in The Great Waldo Pepper, Breakheart Pass, Fraternity Row, and the TV series Marcus Welby, M.D., Harry O, and S.W.A.T. Sadly Scott suffered from alcoholism and drug abuse and after his premature death, his father founded the Scott Newman Center to help others suffering from substance abuse.
Susan Kendall Newman

Eldest daughter Susan was the second child welcomed between Paul and his first wife Jackie. She briefly worked as an actress in the films I Wanna Hold Your Hand and A Wedding and even appeared on Broadway in the late 70s. Susan is a passionate philanthropist like her father was and has worked with numerous non-profits over the years as well as worked as a documentary filmmaker.
Stephanie Newman
Stephanie made a few appearances in films opposite her father when she was younger, but for the most part, opted for a life outside of the spotlight. Not much is known about her as she prefers a quiet life away from Hollywood.
Nell Newman
Born in New York City, Elinor (Nell) was the oldest child from Paul and Joanne's marriage. She was briefly a child actress, using the stage name Nell Potts. She appeared in the Paul Newman directed film Rachel, Rachel as the young version of her mother's character as well as The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds, also directed by her father and starring her mother.
Though she did not pursue an actual career in Hollywood, Nell went on to become a notable environmentalist and biologist. She also helped found the company Newman's Own Organics.
Melissa Newman
Melissa Newman is a former actress just like her parents and sister Nell. She appeared in numerous TV shows throughout the 70s including Bonanza, Hawkins, The New Perry Mason, and See How She Runs. She lives with her husband, Rafael Elkind, in the 19th century Connecticut home formerly owned by her parents, Paul and Joanne. She also has two sons — Peter and Henry Elkind.
Claire Olivia Newman
Paul's youngest daughter Claire (Clea) is working as a producer in Hollywood on shows like Big Little Lies, The Big C, Mad Men, and more.
