Losing a mother is gut-wrenching for anyone. But for someone like Savannah Guthrie, every day is torture.
She has had to endure months of suffering as the search for her missing mother, Nancy Guthrie, ended in a standstill. All the while, though, she had been pledging to come back to live TV.
Now she has returned to the TODAY show, and she's made a heartbreaking admission—without even meaning to. According to the New York Post, the group had been in an animated discussion about how the show was going to Ireland for a special episode.
And Guthrie made a simple, casual announcement about her family: "My mother's family w-, my mother was Irish, her grandmother. They were from Galway," she explained.
The use of the past tense in that sentence did not go unnoticed by many fans of the show. She kept her chipper demeanor despite the nature of her comment, though—moving on to ask Carson Daly if his family had Irish heritage.
However, a source close to the TODAY show and Guthrie said this wasn't an acknowledgement that Nancy had died.

Savannah Guthrie Has Previously Pleaded for Help
We previously reported that Savannah Guthrie has opened up several times and pleaded for help in finding her mother.
She had pleaded directly with kidnappers about her mom in a heartbreaking message. "I'm coming to you today with a very specific message," she said.
"It has been months since our mom was taken from us. Our family is in agony—we are in a nightmare that will not end. Nothing about our situation has changed."
"We have done our part and we will never stop looking for her. We will always ache for her, feel that hole in our hearts."
She then asked for the kidnappers to "do the right thing", adding, "The world can be a cruel and unforgiving place and I know that you have tried to do things the right way."
She continued by asking them to "make the right choice, help us find her, tell us where to look for her".
This is a truly gut-wrenching situation.
