Sandra Bullock's Longtime Partner Bryan Randall Dies at 57 After Private Battle with ALS

Bullock called Randall "the love of my life."

Sandra Bullock's longtime partner Bryan Randall has died after a private battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, his family told People. He was 57.

"It is with great sadness that we share that on Aug. 5, Bryan Randall passed away peacefully after a three-year battle with ALS," the statement read. "Bryan chose early to keep his journey with ALS private and those of us who cared for him did our best to honor his request."

"We are immensely grateful to the tireless doctors who navigated the landscape of this illness with us and to the astounding nurses who became our roommates, often sacrificing their own families to be with ours," the statement continued. "At this time we ask for privacy to grieve and to come to terms with the impossibility of saying goodbye to Bryan."

Randall, a model turned photographer, met Bullock when he was hired to photograph her son Louis' birthday in 2015.

During an interview on Red Table Talk, the Oscar-winner called Randall the "love of my life," adding that he was a great example to her children, Louis, 13, and Laila, 10.

"We share two beautiful children — three children, [Randall's] older daughter. It's the best thing ever," Bullock said (quote via People).

In the same interview, Bullock reflected on her feelings about marriage. (While rumors swirled in 2018 that the pair had tied the knot, Bullock's representative confirmed at the time that there was no truth to the rumors.)

"I am someone who went through the divorce process," she said. "I don't wanna say do it like I do it, but I don't need a paper to be a devoted partner and devoted mother. ... Think about what kind of parent he would be. Think about what kind of parent you would be. And what if something happened? Would you both be great parents to those children even if you didn't make it as a couple. Think about the children first."

In lieu of flowers, Randall's family requests that donations be made to the ALS Association and Massachusetts General Hospital.
