Not only because the couple's wedding announcement was totally out of the blue, but also because Leonard bears a strong resemblance to Zach's most recent ex. In August of 2016, Bryan lost his mom, Annette DeAnn (Mullen) Bryan, whom he referred to as his "best friend." "She knew me better than I knew myself, and better than anyone will ever know me," Bryan wrote in 2016. The country singer even chose the title Deann after his mom for his debut studio album in 2019.
On January 5, Zach Bryan shared that Samantha had a piece of his mother's wedding dress sewn into her own. On his story, he wrote, "Samantha went out of her way to put my mom's wedding dress lace on her dress, and I cried for a good bit." He then thanked his wife, saying, "Meant so much, sweetheart, thank you."

Zach Bryan and Samantha Leonard's marriage has been causing a bit of controversy lately. The main reason is probably that the couple has only been publicly together since July. It wasn't until this past October that they chose to "hard launch" on social media, when Bryan wished Samantha a happy birthday on Instagram. "Today is your birthday and I love you, Samantha Marie," he affectionately wrote. "To the only woman who can hike six miles in Chanel flats, skydive over the alps and catch a bigger fish than me all in the same day."
This post came about a year after Bryan called it quits on his relationship with Brianna Lapaglia. He dated the influencer from July 2023 to October 2024. Recently, on an episode of her podcast, Plan Bri Uncut, Lapaglia shared her thoughts on the situation. "People are like, 'Are you creeped out? Are you mad? Are you annoyed?'" she shared. "I am flattered, to be honest, but it's crazy and it's weird that he's dating a new version of me."
As of October 2025, it's unlikely Brianna can keep up with the latest on Zach's life. According to her, she "has him blocked on everything."
