Sam Outlaw shines a light on the rugged life of a rodeo cowboy in his new video for "Angeleno."
Directed by Max Cutrone and shot in all black-and-white, the emotional clip follows the life of Los Angeles' own rodeo king Cesar Kid Banuelos. Mirroring the reflective lyrics of his debut album's title track, viewers see intimate glimpses of Banuelos enjoying quality time with his wife and young son before putting his life at risk by hopping on the back of a broncin' buck.
Outlaw appears as the story's narrator, using his acoustic guitar and a backing mariachi band to help drive the message home. There are plenty of country songs that describe the hardships of loving a cowboy on the run, but few manage to do it with as much blunt honesty and authentic emotion as "Angeleno."
"It's just a simple love story," Outlaw told the Los Angeles Times of the track. "In some ways it's more about the woman who supports the guy. She stands by him, despite the fact that he's broke and that he's never around."
