Ryan Hurd To a T

Ryan Hurd Shares His 'Mathematic' Approach to Writing Steamy Love Song 'To a T' [Exclusive]

Over the summer, singer-songwriter Ryan Hurd released "To a T," a gorgeous ode to intimacy and quiet moments spent with a soulmate. The song features Hurd's wife, fellow country artist Maren Morris, making the song's message all the more meaningful.

Hurd, who wrote the tune with Laura Veltz and Nathan Spicer, says while the romantic aspect of the song comes from the heart, developing the song's creative phrasing required him to get a little analytical.

"The word play and the phrasing were the absolute hardest part of figuring out this song, but once we hooked into it we knew it was something special. It started with the title of the song, but we figured out that dotting i's and crossing t's could be a cool way to bridge the idea and the title," Hurd tells Wide Open Country. "This part is mostly just singing very badly back and forth to each other until you hammer out the melody and make the words fit in the measures. It's almost mathematic, the way that words and music fit together sometimes, and that's weird to hear come out of my own mouth because I have never been a very analytical guy."
