Santa Fe police were called in to wrangle a runaway horse, leading to a highway chase caught on video.

Indeed, the rebellious equine brought out New Mexico's finest (along with a few cowboys) when it broke loose from a planned appearance at the city's Desfile de La Gente festival on Sunday (Sept. 13). Footage released by the
Santa Fe Police Department shows several motorcycle officers tailing the rogue steed as it clomps through the city streets.Appropriately, the video is accompanied by the Johnny Cash version of "(Ghost) Riders in the Sky."
While the runway horse was off sightseeing, "Santa Fe Police Motors, Bicycle Officers, Animal Services, UAS Drone Operators and a few cowboys," assembled to bring the wannabe mustang back to the parade.
The massive show of force was finally able to get the horse off the highway. Officers also made sure the stallion was properly hydrated before setting out for the Desfile de La Gente festival.
"Motor officers were able to corral him on Canyon Road, and the owner was able to trot him back to the parade starting point in time for a quick drink of water before the parade started," the Santa Fe Police Department explained.
Police went on to thank "our community members on the road that yielded to the horse and motorcycles."

"Seriously, the motorcycles are what's making the horse run faster..." one top comment read. "Underneath all of the technology, it still comes down to a lasso and a pair of boots. Excellent work," another onlooker added. "He was supposed to be in the parade and then saw the police and said nope I'm out of here and gave them a ride for their money lol," another local joked.
Meanwhile, one onlooker couldn't help but speculate about the tale the horse had for his buddies back in the stable.
"Oh, the stories back at the barn that night were rich for sure. So glad he/she was caught safely. Thank you SFPD!" they wrote.
