Just a day after his wife passed away from cancer at the age of 40, Feek shared a photo of himself and his young daughter, Indiana, greeting two horses on their Columbia, Tenn. property. The animals were given to Joey as gift by Rory on her 40th birthday in 2015, months before her cancer became terminal. Late last year, Rory brought Joey to her hometown of Alexandria, Ind. to live out her final days.
“After four-and-a-half months in Indiana, we will soon be back home in Tennessee,” Feek shared, along with an announcement of his wife’s passing, through a post on his blog, This Life I Live. “Me, and our little one, with our older daughters. It’s hard for me to imagine being there without Joey, but at the same time… it is where she wants us to be.”
Joey Feek will be buried in a private ceremony in the backyard of their Tennessee farmhouse at an undisclosed date. A public memorial service has not yet been announced.
“She’s gonna be in the mint growing beside our back deck, the sweet-corn frozen in our freezer and a million other places that her hand and heart has touched around our little farmhouse and community,” Rory Feek wrote. “Joey will still be with us. Everywhere.”
