Rooted in Country: Alex Hall on Trace Adkins' 'You're Gonna Miss This'

Singing the song at 13 years old was a turning point for Hall.

Country singer-songwriter and guitarist Alex Hall released his debut EP just two years ago, but he's already collaborated with esteemed singer-songwriters such as Vince Gill, Brad Paisley and Brandy Clark.

Though only in his 20s, Hall, who'll release his debut full-length album Side Effects of the Heart on Sept. 15, already has over a decade of performance experience under his belt. The Georgia-born artist got his first regular singing gig while in high school, during which time he performed an astounding 125 shows a year.

Hall says it was a Trace Adkins song that helped kick off his career, when his middle school chorus teacher encouraged him to perform a solo during a school concert. Hall chose Adkins' 2007 hit "You're Gonna Miss This," which he calls "the first real song that I sang in front of people."

"I was about 13 years old and I was in middle school chorus and my middle school chorus teacher gave me a moment in the middle of our chorus concert," Hall tells Wide Open Country. "I chose 'You're Gonna Miss This' by Trace Adkins, which was huge on the radio at the time. I still think it's a great song."

Hall recently performed a portion of the song exclusively for Wide Open Country readers.

Hall is currently on tour with country legend Tanya Tucker. His Side Effects of the Heart album features the Brandy Clark collaboration "Women and Horses."
