These fun corn dogs have a secret ingredient: Root beer! Try these Root Beer Dogs today with a helping of french fries and ketchup.

  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup root beer
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup cornmeal
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 Tbsp baking powder
  • 1 Tbsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 8 hot dogs
  • oil for frying


  • In a small bowl combine buttermilk, root beer, and egg. Set aside.
  • In a medium bowl whisk together flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add the wet ingredients to the dry and stir until just combined.
  • Place hot dogs on sticks and dip into batter mixture.
  • Meanwhile, heat a large pot with oil and heat to 375ºF. Add the hot dogs and fry until golden, about 5 minutes. Remove from oil and serve.


The root beer adds a great flavor, try it with your favorite brand.
To make dipping the hot dog in the batter easier, transfer the batter into a large drinking glass and dip the hot dog in.
