4 Rock Singers That Tried To Sing Country But Flopped

We've seen a spate of country crossover artists recently, with the likes of Beyoncé trying her hand at the genre. Sometimes, it works. Just look at Shania Twain, but a lot of the time it really doesn't. Here are a couple of Rock singers who have tried their hand at country and failed badly.

Steven Tyler

Now, Aerosmith are legends, and I don't think anyone will deny that, but they're certainly not country. However, lead singer Steven Tyler thought that he would give country a go despite his rock singer notoriety. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't so great either.

The album titled We're All Somebody From Somewhere starts well. But by track four, 'Only Heaven,' it's over. The song is definitely Steven Tyler, and it's generic and awful to listen to.

Van Morrison

This Rock star singing country didn't fail because of clichéd lyrics or bad vocals, of course. Van Morrison is a god among mere mortals when it comes to music. His 2006 album, Pay The Devil, sounds great. The music is wonderful, and his voice comes across beautifully. However, country fans were put out by the lack of originality. The whole album only had three original tracks. The rest were covers. It's a little lazy.

Bret Michaels

Many of you will remember Poison from the 80s and Bret Michaels, the lead singer. Well, this Rock singer went on to produce a country album, and it has to be one of the worst on the list. People who think that Bro Country is a new thing need to give True Grit by Michael a listen.

His voice is awful, the music sounds like it's been produced on a discount Casio keyboard, and the lyrics are hilariously cliche. If you want a good laugh, give this Rock singer's country album a listen.

Bon Jovi

Sometimes a rock singer doesn't have to flop at country to still be considered bad. Bon Jovi took a stab at a country crossover album with Lost Highway. Despite the album hitting #1 on the Billboard charts, it still received a lot of criticism.

Both Country and Rock fans found that the album was just halfway to nowhere. Country fans thought it was simply trying to capitalise on current country trends. Rock and Bon Jovi fans just felt that it wasn't loyal enough to their original sound. Stick to what you know, Bon Jovi.
