Rock Band Refuses to Apologize for Anti-USA Rant

Black Crowes front man, Chris Robinson, has addressed his recent anti-USA comments in an interview with Ultimate Classic Rock.

If you were asked to describe the general American population in one word, 'patriotic' would probably be your answer. Unless you were speaking with Black Crowes' frontman Chris Robinson, that is.

Robinson recently received significant backlash after telling off a crowd in Florida, who had been chanting "USA! USA! USA!" As you would expect, the backlash to his stance was both loud and swift.

During a recent conversation with Ultimate Classic Rock, Robinson addressed the moment. Robinson then explained that his comments were in no way meant to disrespect army veterans who have fought for the freedoms enjoyed across the country.

"No matter what I ever would say or do or feel about things, there's no way I would disrespect our veterans," he said. "I'm a person that I wish we had moved along as a species not to have violence be the way that we resolve conflicts. But for the people who've put their lives on the line and made that sacrifice and dedication, I wouldn't do that. I can see that for exactly what it is.

However, Robinson did share that he's willing to speak his mind and stand on his values.

"Other than that, you know, I have to speak my mind," he said. "But I don't have an agenda or anything, you know what I mean? I'm just trying to make a soulful connection with people, and we'll continue to endeavor to persevere, as they say in The Outlaw Josey Wales."

What Did the Black Crowes Singer Say?

You may be wondering what Robinson said to receive such a heavy backlash online. Perhaps you missed it, or perhaps it just didn't hit your radar. When performing at a show in Tampa, Florida, a visual came on the screen behind the band, showing the Black Crowes character dressed as Uncle Sam.

That's what set Robinson off.

"I don't know what you have to be so proud of right now," he said. "Some of us have real faith. And, for those of you f-----g booing us, some of us are not afraid. And we most assuredly are not f-----g ignorant. So thank you."

Given the context of the imagery behind him, and the tone and substance of his words, it's understandable why so many took offense. Hopefully, Robinson's explanation will provide the necessary context and the Black Crowes can continue enjoying their Southern Hospitality tour.
