Robert De Niro has come to be defined by his swaggering tough-guy roles in classic films such as The Godfather Part II, Casino, Goodfellas, and Raging Bull. At 83, he is a two-time Academy Award winner and one of the most deservedly respected and admired actors of this or any other generation. Therefore it's challenging to think of De Niro actually getting weepy and emotional in real life. However, Amy Poehler's effusively laudatory comments to him when he was on her podcast Good Hang with Amy Poehler on Tuesday, September 15, had him reaching for the hankies.

De Niro Is Known for His Outspokenness
Robert De Niro has come right out and made clear his intense dislike of President Donald Trump. The star has derisively referred to the president as "a clown," "unhinged," and "power-hungry." He has openly decried his policies as well. At a time when the nation is deeply polarized, De Niro has struck his neck out over and over to bluntly express his views. If his reputation takes a nosedive with the public, then so be it. He always stands up for what be believes and lets the chips fall where they may.
Poehler Talked of His Bold Stances on Issues That Matter to Him and Others
She spoke very highly of De Niro's activism on the podcast. "And to see a person like yourself, the age that you are and the status that you are, the best way I can describe it is when someone's giving a terrible speech at a wedding and they're ruining the wedding. And the wedding is America and there's another adult who says, 'We don't talk like that. That's not how you're supposed to treat people. This is insane.' It makes everybody feel very safe. I've seen you do it over and over again and I really appreciate it."
Amy Poehler added, "So, thank you, Bob. And thanks for doing it over and over again." When she saw that he was getting teary, she said, "This is going to be a real switcheroo because I can't believe I just made you cry. I feel incredible right now. Hold on. We got to get you your tissues."
