Per a report by People, Starkey had to cancel a recent performance in London with his indie band, Mantra of the Cosmos. The drummer experienced a blood clot in his right leg on Tuesday, and the doctors made the diagnosis so suddenly that he had to pull out of a gig scheduled just a few hours later.

According to The Sun, doctors identified the blood clot and placed the drummer on 'immediate bed rest.' Any drummer reading will know that your feet typically operate the hi-hat cymbals or a pedal for a kick drum. While the audience sees percussion players busy with their hands, they often tap and stomp with their feet throughout any performance.

The outlet explains that Mantra of Cosmos was forced to cancel the entire gig at the venue in Soho. The group is an all-star cast. Shaun Ryder from Black Grape and Happy Mondays is the singer. Andy Bell from Oasis and Ride is the guitarist. Bez, aka Mark Berry, is a percussionist who has performed with Mondays and Black Grape. Finally, Zak Starkey, the drummer, has played for Oasis and The Who.

A spokesperson for the band told media outlets that medical professionals advised Starkey to take blood thinners for two weeks. They also told the drummer to rest to prevent additional clots.

The Mantra Of Cosmos Members Still Arrived At The Venue In Soho

Even though the gig was off the table, Shaun, Andy, and Bez still went to the Karma Sanctum venue in Soho to mingle with fans and journalists. According to the Sun, the band members stressed that Zak's health was the most important thing. They also wished him a speedy recovery.

Shaun allegedly joked, "As soon as I get out of here, I'm going to take some tights to get on Zak's legs." Starkey and Mantra Of The Cosmos formed their band recently in 2023. They released their first single, Gorilla Guerilla, released in June of the same year.
