The 1999 football movie is an iconic flick. It has countless fans who still sit down to watch it almost 30 years later.

Riley made the admission of wanting to work on a remake during a recent appearance on Taste Of Country Nights.

"I would have to be Jonathan Moxon, wouldn't you think?" Riley said.

For those who haven't seen the movie, or maybe it's been a little while, Moxon is the lead character in the movie. He was originally played by the late James Van Der Beek, who died in February of 2026. However, Riley did admit that he's finding it difficult to balance both his acting and music careers. After all, there's only so many hours in a day.

"One of the biggest obstacles for me right now is scheduling. You know, when you're in the middle of a tour, it's hard to cut loose and go film a movie," he said.

Hopefully, he can find a balance as he continues to navigate his ever-growing career. Of course, music will likely remain his first priority.

Riley Green Keeps His Show Apolitical

One of the reasons Riley has been so successful and continues to see his career go from strength to strength is that he always puts the fan experience first.

During a recent interview with Billboard, Riley admitted that one way he tries to ensure everybody who attends one of his concerts has a good time is by keeping his shows as apolitical as possible.

"I think people go to concerts to try and get away from their everyday problems and enjoy country music," he continued. "So I think I should kind of look at it the same way. I think people that are very, for lack of a better term, preachy, as far as their beliefs or political sidings or whatever on the stage, seem to me, they come off as somebody that thinks they're the smartest person in the room, and I've never thought that about myself."

It's safe to assume that Riley would approach filmmaking and acting with a similar mindset. He's an entertainer through and through.

So, with that in mind, we can only hope that Riley eventually makes the move to the big screen. And if that means starting with a remake of Varsity Blues, we can probably all get on board with that.
