As you may recall, the incident occurred during his March 14 performance at Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne, Australia. Green then received five stitches on his earlobe.

Security eventually removed the disruptive fan. But Green acknowledged that the situation could have escalated quickly had he reacted on impulse.

Riley Green "Thought About Diving Into the Crowd"

As reported by Entertainment Weekly, Green shared where his head was at when the phone met his face.

"There was probably a moment where I thought about diving into the crowd, and I reeled that back a little bit," he said. "There's people in the venue that paid good money to come see me play, and it seems pretty childish for me to let one person ruin it for everybody."

He then added, "I got to be honest: I looked pretty cool with blood running down my neck singing 'I Wish Grandpas Never Died.'"

Video footage of the incident captures Green putting down his guitar and pointing out the fan.

"Get your a** on out of here, go on," he said as they were escorted out. He then smiled and continued with the performance.

Green Was Raised To Be a Gentleman

The 37-year-old Green then shared that with age comes wisdom. Plus, his parents raised him to be a gentleman.

"I was just brought up to know how to treat people and how to talk to people [with] a certain level of respect. My granddaddy Buford used to give me and my cousins handshake competitions when we were kids," he said.

He added, "There's going to be some things thrown at you when you're doing interviews, especially in other countries, and you just got to kind of roll with it [and] get over yourself a little bit."

Looking ahead, Green may need to channel even more restraint this fall. It was recently announced that he will be a coach on the next season of The Voice. He will be joining Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine, and Queen Latifah.

"I guess y'all can start calling me coach... see ya this fall," he shared on Instagram.

We can already see Levine and Green going at it as they sit in the rotating red chairs. Let's hope they can keep their cool.
