Riley Green has enjoyed countless hits in recent years. Of course, he's also produced countless fan favorites during that time span, too. Still, not many of his songs have captured his fanbase like "I Wish Grandpas Never Died."

The popular track was released back in 2019. It was part of Green's debut studio album "Different 'Round Here." To this day, it's still one of his most beloved songs. At the time, it peaked at 12th on the Billboard U.S. Country Airplay chart, further proving it's popularity.

During a recent interview on TalkShop Live, Green revealed that "I Wish Grandpas Never Died" almost went by a different name.

"The title doesn't always come first," Green said. "It's probably the story, I guess. I mean, you have to build a story, but it's an idea. A lot of times, I've got a lot of in my notes on my phone. I've got a lot of titles. I guess they are, but it led to a completely different title. You know, maybe it was just a part of a song, or maybe just an idea. So I remember when I wrote' Grandpa's never died,' the title in my phone was 'Grandpa's Know Everything.'"

A Core Memory Almost Led Riley Green To Choose a Different Song Name

As the conversation continued, Green noted that a core memory of his, a trip to the beach with his grandpa, is what led to the initial song name.

"And that came from when I was a little kid, I had a remote control car and I was down at the beach and I was driving it, and it got a little bit in the water. And then I went back up the house and told him that it didn't work," he recalled. "My granddaddy was like, 'Maybe you got it in the ocean down there a little bit.' I was like, 'Oh no, I don't think so.' But I never got away with anything, because he was smart enough they always caught me."

Ultimately, he settled on a more heartfelt song name. And who knows, maybe the title is part of why the track has been so successful. After all, we can all relate with the wish that grandparents were here forever.
