Rick Springfield Reveals He's Suffering From Brain Damage After Taking Fall 25 Years Ago

If something was wrong with you but you couldn't immediately tell, would you want to know? It's a conflicting thing; they always say ignorance is bliss, you can live life with little different by not knowing. Knowledge may be power but when it comes in detriment to your peace of mind, it only makes you fixate on the negative. By not knowing, you can live without fear. But you also risk things worsening as well. For 80s pop star Rick Springfield, he's been living with a medical issue for a quarter of a century without even batting an eye. Now, he's talking about how he just found out what was wrong with him.

Recently, Springfield spoke with PEOPLE and talked about a Prenuvo whole-body MRI scan procedure he underwent. Through the operation, the 'Jesse's Girl' singer learned that he's actually been living with brain damage after a brutal fall in 2000 at a Las Vegas show. "I fell 25 feet, hit my head and then wood came down and hit my head," Rick recalls. "And then my head hit the stage again. I thought I had just broken my wrist, but on the scan I found out I have some brain damage from the fall, so I'm working on trying to repair that."

He acknowledges how people in his life oftentimes didn't want to know what was wrong with them. But Springfield feels strongly opposed to that. Instead, he wants to prepare for bad news wherever he can. Consequently, he'll have a plan of action for the worst. "My dad died from not wanting to know," Rick explains. "He thought he had stomach cancer for years and never got it checked out. When he finally collapsed one day at home, they found out it was an ulcer that burst. He died from the loss of blood. It could have been fixed if he had gotten it checked out."

"That was a giant message to me: If you want to live long, you have to be prepared for some bad news now and then," Rick adds. "I could find out I have terminal cancer tomorrow and be dead in a year, but I can only do all I can do."
