A recall for a popular brand of white rice has been expanded. The original recall occurred on April 10 - we reported on it when it happened.
At the time, around 4,500 cases of the Lundberg Family Farms' organic jasmine white rice were affected. At the time, the brand were offering full refunds at no detriment to the consumer. No injuries had been reported at the time.

The Rice Recall Was Expanded
But now, the recall has been expanded in quite a big way, per Rolling Out. The affected packages now number 27,324 - which totals more than 54,000 pounds. It has now been clarified by authorities that the affected rice was sold in a number of different grocery stores, like Walmart, Target, and Wegmans.
They were sold in the following states:
- California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin
The specific white rice that has been affected is as follows:

The brand has specified that people should be especially vigilant in checking their rice. This is because of its status as a pantry staple - people are likely to leave it for months at a time before using it.
Why Was This Product Recalled?
The white rice was recalled because of the possible presence of foreign material. However, the FDA weren't specific about the exact "foreign material" which was present in the product.
Per the outlet, similar recalls have been due to stones, wood, metal, or plastic fragments. Either way, the FDA has continued to classify the recall as they did in April. It is a Class II recall - meaning it "may cause temporary or medically reversible health problems; serious consequences are unlikely".
As of August 29, there has been no injuries or illnesses reported because of the rice. We hope that this stays the case. It's important to note that the only affected rice is the jasmine white rice - if you have another type, you're in the clear.
