Spears was sitting at a corner table at the Blue Dog Tavern in Sherman Oaks, California. Witnesses say she began screaming and barking.
The singer had a burger and fries. Witnesses say that she and the man she was with were playfully feeding each other. She told him, "I love you." However, it's not clear if she meant it.
Another patron told TMZ that the singer walked by their table holding a knife. While there was concern she might accidentally stab someone, the patron says she probably forgot to put it down at her table.
What makes this report alarming is that earlier this month, Spears reached a plea deal regarding a previous DUI charge back in March. She is on 12-month probation and cannot possess drugs unless she has a valid prescription. If she violates these terms, she could go to jail.
What Did Her Rep Say?
A rep for the singer told Entertainment Weekly that the TMZ report completely blew things "out of proportion."
She said, "Britney was enjoying a quiet dinner with her assistant and bodyguard. She was simply telling the story about how her dog was barking at the neighbors."
"At no point did she put anyone in danger with a knife," she added. "She was cutting her hamburger in half. This constant attack on everything that she does and this is exactly what happened 20 years ago when the media tried to depict Britney as a bad person. This is ridiculous, and it needs to stop now."
This comes several weeks after Spears checked out of rehab. In a now-deleted post, she talked about her recent "spiritual journey." She also described her recent incidents as "a blessing in disguise."
"I still have to learn how to be kind to myself and the way I speak to myself," she wrote. "It's a never-ending journey and sometimes I just stop, look up, and say, 'Wow, God, I think that was you' and smile on!!!!"
