A recall has been issued for a popular brand of pepperoncini after a pair of TikToks showed what appeared to be a dead mouse floating in a jar of the product.

What Are the Details on the Recall?
As reported by the Houston Chronicle, the stomach-churning clips were posted on Sep. 16 by user @reizargt. They showed what appeared to be a dead rodent inside a 32-ounce jar of Mezzetta Golden Greek Pepperoncini Medium Heat.
"Public service announcement — don't buy this brand of pepperoncinis," the user, who goes by Tiffany, said. "I have a dead mouse in mine."
The 23-second clip, which shows the user making a Mississippi pot roast, has since been viewed over 680,000 times as of Sunday afternoon.
Mezzetta has since issued a voluntary recall on a single lot of the pepperoncini. It also launched an investigation into the incident. It then reached out to the user who posted the TikToks, according to an announcement from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Saturday, Sep. 26.
"Food safety is our highest priority," the company said. "Our facilities follow established programs for sanitation, pest control, product quality, and traceability designed to protect our products throughout production and distribution."
The Affected Product Is Being Removed From Shelves
Since the California-based Mezzetta was made aware of the videos, it has asked stores carrying the jars affected by the recall to remove the single lot from shelves. The jars have SKU 10106328 and lot number 720106.
"We immediately took action to identify where the product was distributed and worked with affected customers to isolate and remove it from sale," the announcement also shared. "As our investigation continues, we'll take other appropriate steps as needed."
Mezzetta also states that consumers should not eat the affected peppers. It asks them to contact its customer support team at [email protected].
"Based on the information currently available, no other Mezzetta products or lots are included in this recall," the announcement also added.
