Reba Talks Keeping Her Music 'Interesting' at 71
To celebrate her 50th anniversary in the industry, the country music star is releasing a series of new projects. And each will feature new music from her extensive catalog. In an interview with Billboard, Reba talks about the importance of keeping things "interesting" for her fans at this stage of her career.
"I thought it was totally genius, because the catalog business is booming right now," McEntire said to the outlet.
She also said that in an era where people are "very nostalgic," it made sense to pair her old hits with newer music.
"People are getting very nostalgic, and they like the old songs they are familiar with," she added. "So, to pair a brand new song with past songs that are in the catalog, I told [manager Justin McIntosh], 'This is one of the most creative, genius things I've seen done.'"
The 71-year-old also talked about the importance of trying new things in her music. In one of her more recent tracks, Ring Ring, the country music star talks about calling out a cheating partner. This ultimately lands her in jail for the rest of her life. Reba says that she had "fun" recording the song and accompanying video. However, she admits that she was initially skeptical about making it because of her age.
"I thought it was fun, and then I thought, 'Well, it might be too silly. I'm 71 years old. Why am I singing songs like this?'," she said of the new track. "But the more I listened to it, the more I loved it," she said of the track. "It brought out the kid in me."
But that, of course, is not a reality for the country music star. Reba is happily engaged and set to wed her longtime sweetheart, Rex Linn. However, she admitted that there is no date set for their upcoming nuptials due to their busy schedules.
