The Top 12 contestants were in for a surprise when Reba McEntire showed up as a guest coach.
"I hope you're listening, because everything she's saying is extraordinarily wise," The Voice judge Adam Levine instructed Deanna Johnson of country star Reba McEntire's sage words. McEntire was a guest mentor on last night's episode, and the contestants were absolutely thrilled to have her. This isn't her first time to guest star, however. You might remember Reba McEntire on The Voice season one, in 2011.
Upon meeting Reba, Brian Johnson announced that he was "fangirling", but Hannah Kirby was even more excited and ran into McEntire's arms screaming "REBA!"
McEntire gave a lot of invaluable guidance to each contestant. To Joshua Davis, she said he had a "cute smile," adding, "When you do smile, your eyes twinkle!" At the suggestion of Adam Levine, Davis sang "America" by Simon and Garfunkel, without his signature guitar -- a move that will definitely have an effect on his tenure on the show, but whether it will be good or bad remains to be seen.
After her performance of "Edge of Seventeen" by Stevie Nicks, McEntire compared Hannah Kirby's voice to Dolly Parton. The comparison was a compliment of high esteem as Kirby put her everything into the song and absolutely rocked it.
Reba joined the show as it had reached the final top 12 contestants. There were no more steals or saves left, the show results relied solely on viewers' votes, so her advice was essential. Tonight's show will reveal who will be going home, but with performances so amazing, it's hard to imagine which singer will be cut from the lineup.
