The "Big Brother" Contestant's Wife Was Diagnosed With Breast Cancer
The 42-year-old Rick won $810,000 on Big Brother, more than any contestant on the show. In a video the couple posted on Instagram on Oct. 25, he and his wife, Becca, joked about the win.
"We just wanted to let you know some important news," said Becca. "I feel like it'd be weird if we didn't tell you before I, like, had to go have surgery."
"So, um, Rick won Big Brother," she added. "That's not the news, though," replied Rick.
"We came home, and I got diagnosed with breast cancer," shared Becca. "So, that sucks. But we caught it early because I do my mammograms like a good girl."
What About Treatment?
Becca told followers that she is undergoing a double mastectomy, a surgery to remove both breasts. According to the Cleveland Clinic, it is a treatment option for those with a high risk of developing cancer in both breasts. The mother of two joked that the surgery will be "fun."
She also shared that she had an MRI scheduled for today, Oct. 27.
"After that, I'll know for sure that it's where we think it is, which would be great. And if you guys just want to send good vibes and prayers for that, that's awesome," Becca said.
The couple also shared their two children, ages 9 and 12, know about the diagnosis.
Becca added, "Kids are doing good. Everybody's okay, but we just wanna let you know, and we'll keep you posted."
Rick told viewers to send Becca "good vibes." In the comments, the Big Brother winner added, "Thank you all for the love! Becca's got this... Luckily she's the tough one. Also, the funny, charming, smart, good-looking one."
