His wife, Luciana, wrote, "To the world, he was an Academy Award-winning actor, a director, a storyteller. To me, he was simply everything. His passion for his craft was matched only by his deep love for characters, a great meal, and holding court."

The tributes to the actor's amazing body of work have been pouring in since. Many have recalled his role as Boo Radley in To Kill a Mockingbird. Others have mentioned his work in The Godfather and Apocalypse Now.

Of course, no list is complete without mentioning Duvall's Oscar-winning turn as singer-songwriter Mac Sledge in Tender Mercies or as cowboy Gus McCrae in Lonesome Dove.

However, one film that is probably not on anyone's list is the 2008 holiday comedy Four Christmases. It stars Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon as a couple who must travel to each of their family members' holiday parties after their vacation plans are canceled. Duvall played Vaughn's father.

Well, Tim McGraw remembers that movie. For one, he was in it, playing one of Duvall's sons. But the two struck up a friendship on set that continued until his death, so the "Don't Take the Girl" singer shared his tribute to the late actor on social media.

Tim McGraw Said Duvall Was "One of the All-Time Greats"

Yesterday, McGraw posted a picture of Duvall and talked about the relationship he had with the actor.

"One of the all-time greats in my opinion has passed on. I will never forget my time with him on set and our text messages over the last few years about movies, "1883" and every time "Tender Mercies" was on on tv, I would text him and say "I'm watching it again," he wrote.

McGraw added, "One of my prized possessions is a book of screenplays by Horton Foote that I got in the mail around 6 months ago with a beautiful sentiment and autograph that I will keep to myself. An incredible talent, one that doesn't come along that often. We will miss him and celebrate his life by watching all the great films he made through the years, go rest high my friend."
