Hockey icon Ron Duguay is finally out of hospital. As reported by Yahoo!Sports, this comes after he was previously diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer.
He was taken to hospital last week after he experienced a fall in his home. At the time, his daughter, Shay Thomas, posted to social media, providing an update as to his condition.
Per Forever Blueshirts, she explained he had "injured a few parts of his face, and knocked out a few teeth" because of the fall. He ended up needing to take an ambulance to the hospital.
His condition was very serious. He was found to have been hydrated and malnourished because of how sick he felt. As well as this, the hockey icon was also suffering with varices, portal hypertensive gastropathy, internal bleeding, and an ulcer.

- Varices refer to enlarged and swollen blood vessels which can be life-threatening if ruptured.
- Portal hypertensive gastropathy refers to the changes in stomach mucous because of various factors, with varices being one of these.
She Posted an Encouraging Update on the Hockey Icon
In an update video on social media, she confirmed that Duguay was on the mend. However, it's not smooth sailing as of yet - he has a long way to go.
"He isn't still feeling his best or eating much," she wrote. "But, he is taking it day by day, trying to get down some soup and slowly regain his strength."
She continued, "our main focus is getting him strong enough to travel back to Orange County and return to City of Hope." She then detailed his hopeful next treatment, which is called Bizengri, or zenocutuzumab-zbco.
Thomas explained that it is a "targeted therapy that works by blocking certain signals that can help cancer cells grow." She appeared to be somewhat confident in the treatment, saying she is "praying this will be the treatment his body responds to".
We hope that the rest of his treatment goes well. In any case, we're glad to hear the hockey icon is out of hospital, if nothing else!
